What you will need

Before you start, have the following information ready:

  • Your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.co.za)
  • Your email password
  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.co.za

You can find these details in your DirectAdmin control panel under Email Accounts, or in your 0724 Hosting welcome email.

Step 1: Open Mail settings

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail
  3. Tap Accounts
  4. Tap Add Account

Step 2: Choose Other

  1. On the "Add Account" screen, scroll down and tap Other
  2. Tap Add Mail Account

Step 3: Enter your account information

Fill in the "New Account" form:

  • Name: Your name (how it will appear to recipients)
  • Email: your full email address (you@yourdomain.co.za)
  • Password: your email password
  • Description: a name for this account (e.g. "Work Email" or your domain name)

Tap Next in the top right corner.

Step 4: Select IMAP and configure servers

At the top of the next screen, select IMAP (not POP).

Incoming Mail Server:

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.co.za (replace with your actual domain)
  • User Name: your full email address
  • Password: your email password (should be pre-filled)

Outgoing Mail Server:

  • Host Name: mail.yourdomain.co.za (same as incoming)
  • User Name: your full email address
  • Password: your email password

Tap Next. iOS will verify your account settings. This may take a few moments.

Step 5: Configure SSL and port settings

If iOS automatically configures the correct ports, you will see a screen asking which services to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendars). If the verification fails, you need to configure the ports manually:

  1. Go back to Settings β†’ Mail β†’ Accounts
  2. Tap on your newly added account
  3. Tap Account at the top
  4. Tap SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server
  5. Tap your primary server (mail.yourdomain.co.za)
  6. Configure the settings:
    • Server Port: 465
    • Use SSL: ON
    • Authentication: Password
  7. Tap Done
  8. Go back and tap Advanced under Incoming Mail Server
  9. Configure the settings:
    • Use SSL: ON
    • Server Port: 993
  10. Tap Done

Step 6: Choose what to sync

On the final screen, enable or disable the services you want to sync:

  • Mail: ON (required)
  • Contacts: OFF (unless your 0724 Hosting account includes CardDAV)
  • Calendars: OFF (unless your account includes CalDAV)

Tap Save to complete the setup.

Why use IMAP?

IMAP keeps your email synchronised across all your devices. When you read, delete, or move an email on your iPhone, the change appears on your iPad, computer, and webmail. This is essential for modern email workflows where you check email from multiple devices.

Troubleshooting common issues

Cannot verify account

If iOS cannot verify your account during setup:

  • Double-check your email address and password are correct
  • Ensure the server is mail.yourdomain.co.za, not mail.0724.co.za
  • Verify you are using your full email address as the username
  • Try connecting to Wi-Fi instead of cellular data, or vice versa
  • Manually configure the ports as described in Step 5

Can receive but not send email

This indicates an SMTP configuration problem:

  • Go to Settings β†’ Mail β†’ Accounts β†’ your account β†’ SMTP
  • Verify the port is 465 with SSL enabled
  • Ensure your SMTP username is your full email address
  • Check that authentication is set to "Password"
  • Some cellular networks block port 465; try port 587 if 465 does not work

SSL certificate warning

If you see an SSL certificate warning when connecting, this may be because you are connecting to a shared hosting server with a generic hostname. You can tap Continue to accept the certificate for mail servers provided by 0724 Hosting, or contact support to confirm the correct hostname.

Email not updating

If your email is not syncing:

  • Go to Settings β†’ Mail β†’ Accounts β†’ Fetch New Data
  • Ensure Push is enabled, or set Fetch to a regular interval (e.g. Every 15 Minutes)
  • Check that Low Power Mode is not enabled, as this can delay email syncing
  • Verify you have a stable internet connection

Switching between email accounts

In the Mail app, tap Mailboxes in the top left corner to see all your configured email accounts. Tap an account or mailbox to view its contents. You can also view all inboxes together by selecting "All Inboxes".

Configuring on multiple devices

If you use both an iPhone and an iPad, you need to configure your email account separately on each device following the same steps. IMAP will ensure your email, folders, and read status stay synchronised between both devices.
