Before you start

You will need the following information, which is available in your DirectAdmin control panel or from 0724 Hosting support:

  • Your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.co.za)
  • Your email password
  • Your incoming mail server (IMAP) hostname
  • Your outgoing mail server (SMTP) hostname

If you are unsure of your server details, log in to ca.0724.co.za or contact support before starting.

IMAP vs POP3: which should you use?

Use IMAP. IMAP keeps your email synchronised across all devices β€” phone, laptop, desktop, and webmail all show the same inbox. POP3 downloads mail to one device and removes it from the server, which causes problems if you access email on more than one device.

Incoming mail server settings (IMAP)

Outgoing mail server settings (SMTP)

Common problems

Authentication failed: Double-check that your username is your full email address (not just the part before @), and that the password is correct. Reset it via DirectAdmin if needed.

Cannot connect to server: Check that you have the correct hostname. Try using your server's IP address temporarily to rule out DNS issues.

SSL certificate error: This usually means you are using the domain name as the mail server hostname before SSL has been configured on it. Use the mail server hostname provided by 0724 Hosting instead of your domain name.

Emails not sending: Make sure SMTP authentication is enabled and that you are using port 587 with STARTTLS, not port 25.

Setting up on mobile

Use the same IMAP and SMTP settings above for iPhone (iOS Mail), Android Gmail app, or any other mobile mail client. On mobile, always choose IMAP and ensure authentication is enabled for SMTP.
