What you will need

Before you start, have the following information ready:

  • Your full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.co.za)
  • Your email password
  • Incoming mail server (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.co.za

You can find these details in your DirectAdmin control panel under Email Accounts, or in your 0724 Hosting welcome email.

Method 1: Using the Gmail app (recommended)

The Gmail app is pre-installed on most Android devices and supports non-Gmail email accounts. This is the easiest method for most users.

Step 1: Open Gmail and add an account

  1. Open the Gmail app
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right
  3. Tap Add another account
  4. Select Other (not Google)

Step 2: Enter your email address

  1. Enter your full email address: you@yourdomain.co.za
  2. Tap Next
  3. Select Personal (IMAP)
  4. Enter your email password
  5. Tap Next

Step 3: Configure incoming server (IMAP)

Gmail will usually detect the correct settings automatically. If it does not, or if you need to configure manually:

  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password
  • Server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Port: 993
  • Security type: SSL/TLS

Tap Next.

Step 4: Configure outgoing server (SMTP)

  • SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Port: 465
  • Security type: SSL/TLS
  • Require sign-in: Yes (checked)
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password

Tap Next to continue.

Step 5: Complete setup

  1. Choose your sync frequency (we recommend Every 15 minutes or Automatically)
  2. Decide if you want notifications for this account
  3. Give your account a name (optional)
  4. Tap Next to finish

Your email will now appear in the Gmail app alongside any Gmail accounts you have.

Method 2: Using the native Email app

Many Android devices come with a built-in Email app (sometimes called "Email" or "Mail"). The exact steps vary by manufacturer, but the process is similar.

Step 1: Open the Email app

  1. Open your device's Email or Mail app
  2. If this is your first account, you will see a setup screen. Otherwise, go to Settings β†’ Add Account
  3. Select Other or Manual Setup

Step 2: Choose IMAP and enter credentials

  1. Select IMAP account (not POP3)
  2. Enter your email address and password
  3. Tap Manual Setup or Next

Step 3: Configure IMAP settings

  • IMAP server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Port: 993
  • Security type: SSL/TLS
  • Username: your full email address

Tap Next.

Step 4: Configure SMTP settings

  • SMTP server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Port: 465
  • Security type: SSL/TLS
  • Require sign-in: Yes
  • Username: your full email address
  • Password: your email password

Tap Next to finish the setup.

Why use IMAP?

IMAP keeps your email synchronised between your phone, computer, and webmail. When you read or delete an email on your phone, the change happens everywhere. This is essential for modern email workflows.

Troubleshooting common issues

Cannot connect to server

If your Android device cannot connect to the mail server:

  • Double-check your email address and password are correct
  • Ensure the server is mail.yourdomain.co.za, not mail.0724.co.za
  • Verify the ports are 993 for IMAP and 465 for SMTP
  • Confirm SSL/TLS is selected for both servers
  • Try connecting to Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, or vice versa

Authentication failed

If you see an authentication error:

  • Ensure you are using your full email address as the username, not just the part before @
  • Verify your password works by logging into webmail at mail.yourdomain.co.za
  • Contact 0724 Hosting support to confirm your account is active

Can receive but not send email

This indicates an SMTP configuration problem:

  • Verify the SMTP port is 465 with SSL/TLS
  • Ensure "Require sign-in" is enabled for the outgoing server
  • Check that the SMTP username is your full email address
  • Some mobile networks block port 465; try port 587 with STARTTLS if 465 does not work

Email not syncing

If your email is not updating:

  • Check your sync settings and ensure they are not set to "Manual"
  • Go to Settings β†’ Data Usage and ensure background data is enabled for your email app
  • Check that Battery Saver mode is not restricting the email app

Switching between email accounts

In the Gmail app, tap your profile icon in the top right to see all your configured email accounts. Tap an account to switch to it. You can also view all inboxes together by selecting "All inboxes".
